Central Denmark Region’s Office for Central and Eastern Europe represents the constantly growing and innovative Danish region, Central Denmark Region in the area of Central and Eastern Europe.
Beginning of the international activities
The cooperation started with some common social projects around Central-Europe. In 1991 a sister county agreement has been signed between Viborg County (Denmark) and Bács-Kiskun County (Hungary), and in 1992 between Aarhus County (Denmark) and Győr-Moson-Sopron County (Hungary). These sister county partnerships were mostly focused on cultural collaboration in the first years, but during the past two decades the cooperation broadened and nowadays it includes several areas and activities. Meanwhile the Danish counties were abolished and five regions were established. The Central Denmark Region not only took over the previous sister county collaborations from the two former counties, but strengthened the common work with the Hungarians, which opened new perspectives.
The well-functioning, varied collaborations gave the idea to operate a representative office in Budapest which covers not only Hungary but the whole Central and Eastern European area to promote possibilities for cooperation between Central Denmark Region together with the Danish municipalities located in Central Denmark Region and Central and Eastern European partners.
Our main partners are administrative entities both on national level such as ministries and state institutions and also on regional level such as counties and municipalities, including also local institutions and local government-owned companies. We also cooperate with research, knowledge and educational institutions, foundations and cultural associations.
The office in Budapest became representative office in 2013 in relation to Central Denmark Region’s new international strategy, and it is part of the Region’s international offices among the EU Office in Brussels and the representative office in Shanghai.
